PP 424 - Pharmacist Role in Lifestyle Changes to Maintain Cardiovascular Health

Pharmacy graduates should be competent to provide counseling on lifestyle changes leading to wellness and cardiovascular disease prevention. This involves counseling on healthy eating, achievement of healthy weight, and smoking cessation. This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills aligned with Healthy People 2020, a national program for community wellness and prevention. Students will search drug and health information resources, learn ways to improve communication by appealing to patients’ health literacy needs, and learn methods for engaging community members by using games to promote healthy lifestyle changes. The course uses a nationally recognized curriculum called Rx for Change. After completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate that acknowledges completion of 6 or more hours of coursework and 2 or more hours of simulated patient counseling.
