PP 420 - Therapeutics of Substance Abuse and Addiction

This course provides the therapeutic approach for substance abuse risk, prevention, and treatment. Agents of abuse, their risk, and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment and outreach programs are discussed. Therapeutic approaches include prevention, detoxification, treating withdrawal symptoms, substitution therapy, and deterrents. Emphasis is placed on the pharmacist‘s role in identifying and treating peers and patients and on understanding the political and social implications surrounding substance abuse and addiction.
